Today on 31st of July 2012 Google has featured the London 2012 Artistic Gymnastics Men’s Rings in form of Google Doodle on their homepage. It is the fifth doodle for London Olympic 2012 .
In today’s Doodle a male gymnasts is holding the rings with his hands. The two rings are the two ‘O’ of Google logo. The term Artistic Gymnastics was first used in the 19th century. Between its appearance at the Athens 1896 Games and the 1920s, the event evolved into what we recognise as modern Gymnastics.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics, three different gymnastics disciplines will be contested: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline. The artistic gymnastics events will be held at the North Greenwich Arena on 28 July–7 August. The rhythmic gymnastics events will be held at the Wembley Arena on 9–12 August. The trampoline events will be held at the North Greenwich Arena on 3–4 August.
London 2012 Men’s Rings competition is being conducted in four phases – qualification, team final, individual all-around final and individual apparatus finals.
