Comedian Gallagher ‘Slowly Recovering’ from Heart Attack
Prop comic Gallagher, best known for obliterating watermelons with a sledgehammer, suffered a heart attack on Wednesday night. The 65-year-old was taken by ambulance to a hospital after he complained of having chest pains.
Gallagher, is listed in stable condition at an undisclosed Dallas area hospital. His manager told CNN and that Gallagher is “slowly recovering,” and added, “We will not know the outcome until sometime tomorrow.”
The standup comedian was about to go on stage at Hat Tricks, a club in Lewisville, when he fell ill and was taken to a hospital by paramedics.
“His family is with him and Hat Tricks has been unbelievable with the help and support with everything,” the manager said.
During a March 10, 2011 performance in Rochester, Minnesota, Gallagher collapsed on stage, gripping his chest. He was rushed to Saint Marys Hospital, where it was determined that he had suffered a minor heart attack.
His shows in Texas, Oklahama and Oregon scheduled through next week have been postponed.
