Today, is 29th February 2012, a leap year and birthday of Gioachino Rossini and Google is celebrating Gioachino Rossini 220th birthday (Leap Year) by making a great Google Doodle. He was an Italian composer. He was born in Feruary 29, 1792.
His most phenomenal is Tancredi in 1813 which was shown at the Teatro La Fenice. A two-stage opera drama that should have ended happily, but he changed it to a tragic end. Another famous opera, Le Barbier de Sville (The Barber of Seville), is about a Spanish count ‘Almaviva’, who falls in love with a girl called Rosine.
The Google doodle depicts this opera in a unique way – it has 4 frogs, each doing something related to the ‘The Barber of Seville’. Frogs, have long been associated with the term ‘leap year’.One of the frogs is at the piano, another is a leaping soprano, the next frog is the barber, Figaro, and the frog getting the shave is Almaviva.
Rossini’s other famous operas include William Tell (1829) and Cinderella (1817). After years of mental and physical illness, Rossino died in 1868 in Paris and was buried in the city’s Pere Lachaise cemetery before, two decades later, his remains were moved to Florence by official request.
