Country singer Randy Travis was arrested early Monday morning and charged with suspicion of public intoxication.
According to Dallas NBC sister station KDFW, Travis was spotted in front of a church in the town of Sanger with an open bottle of wine.
Sanger police said an officer noticed a car parked in front of the church early Monday morning and, thinking that was unusual, made contact with the driver. That’s when, according to police, Travis was found with the bottle. Officers also reported a distinct smell of alcohol.
Tom Reedy, with the Denton County Sheriff’s Department, said Sanger officers took Travis to Denton where he was booked into the county jail at 1:30 a.m. Monday. Travis was released a few hours later.
Police said Travis was at his girlfriend’s house before he was arrested.
