Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley, is a Boxing Welterweight match that is scheduled to be held on June 9, 2012, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After the Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight negotiation ended when both sides once again did not come to terms, Mayweather opted to challenge junior middleweight titlist Miguel Cotto on May 5.
Cotto had also been in the running to face Pacquiao in a rematch, but Pacquiao and Cotto could not agree on the weight for the fight. Pacquiao wanted the 147-pound welterweight limit, which Cotto said was too low for him, and he accepted a deal from Mayweather.
The other names in the running to face Pacquiao in the pay-per-view fight were junior welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto, Lamont Peterson, and Juan Manuel Marquez, who is 0-2-1 in a three close fights with Pacquiao, including a majority decision loss to him in November.
Bradley would move up in weight to challenge Pacquiao for his title.
Both fighters are in the ring with unbeaten challenger Timothy Bradley (28-0, 12 knockouts), looking extremely fit and determined, entering first, wearing a black robe trimmed in white.
Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs), the WBO welterweight champion, followed about two minutes later with a smaller entourage than he’s towed behind him in the past. He was wearing a red and blue robe -– the colors on the Philippine flag — and a red and white cloth headband. A pro-Filipino crowd of about 16,000 greeted him enthusiastically.
Bradley, who will pocket a career-high purse of $5 million for this fight, could be in line for some even bigger paydays with a win here. And Pacquiao, who looked shaky his last couple of times out, needs a dominant victory over the soft-punching Bradley to rekindle talk of a mega-fight with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr.
