Skype releases video app for Android

Android phones Video calling

Hot on the heels of the announcement of Skype’s much-anticipated iPad app, the company pushed out its second version of Skype for Android, enabling video calls on mobile phones.

Not many of them, though. Only a handful will have access to the new feature at first: the Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo and Sony Ericsson Xperia pro.

The app will work over 3G and WiFi, and can be used for Skype video calls to other mobile phones, computers and televisions.

The app, of course, also lets users make calls to landlines and mobile phones and send SMS messages at Skype’s rates.

The app is free and available on the Android market.
